There are several areas in your home that are very important from a Feng Shui point of view, and one of them is the front door.
Feng Shui and the front door
In Feng Shui, the official front door of the house is called the mouth of Qi because it is the main pathway through which Qi or life energy enters the room. A strong front door is important because it shows that you can welcome new opportunities into your life. To strengthen your front door, make sure the area is clean, tidy and easily accessible. If you can easily enter and exit through your front door, qi is likely to flow slowly in this area. To further support your front door, you can intentionally paint it a certain color that matches the position or direction of the door.
There are many different schools of feng shui with different approaches. Some schools, including the Flying Star, Classic and Compass schools, take into account the magnetic compass direction by which certain aspects of your home are aligned. If you are working with one of these schools, knowing the compass direction at your front door can help strengthen it. To find out the direction outside your front door, pick up a compass (this compass can be a feng shui compass or simply an app on your smartphone) and stand in front of your door. The direction you are facing, shown on the compass, is the direction your front door is facing.
Feng Shui colors for East-Facing Doors
If your front door faces east, you should paint your door a color that supports the wood element. You can do this by choosing a color that is directly related to the wood element, or you can choose the color of the water element, since water nourishes and feeds wood in a five-element cycle. Take a look at the following colors and see which one appeals to you the most. Remember that if you try to paint your door a new color and you do not like it, you can always repaint it later!
Wood Element Feng Shui Colors
Green: The element of wood and the color green represent new growth and beginnings. Think of the fresh green of a new blade of grass or growing tree leaves.
Blue: Blue is a healing and calming color that is great for your home decor. Choose a lighter blue to make a statement, or a slightly softer one to create more calm.
Teal: Like all wood element colors, green promotes growth and healing. It can also be a fun and bold color for the front door!
Water Element Feng Shui Colors
Black: Black is a subtle color that represents wisdom and intuition. It can also be used to bring well-being and positivity into your home.
Deep charcoal gray: If you like the idea of black but feel very uncomfortable with the exterior of your home, try an almost black and very deep charcoal gray. If you want to attract water energy, it is very important to choose a dark gray color, because a lighter gray will indicate the metal element you see on the west door.
Dark navy blue: even a very dark blue, close to black, can absorb the characteristics of the water element. Deep crimson can be a beautiful color for the front door, matching many different interior styles.
Colors to avoid for an East-Facing Front Door
In feng shui, the wood element is weakened by metal and fire. If wood is an element that supports you, you should avoid colors related to metal and fire for your east-facing door. These colors are white and red.
If You Can’t Repaint Your Door
If you live in a rented home or cannot paint your front door for other reasons, you can still use the energy of the elements of wood and water to support your east door. Use your creativity to find ways to combine wood colors and water elements in other ways in your front door decor. Here are some ideas:
Add a beautiful black welcome mat to the front of your home. Or use your welcome mat as an opportunity to add blue or blues.
Place pots of healthy green plants on the front steps to represent the wood element. You can even choose pots in the color of the wood or water element.
Hang your house number, painted blue or black, at the entrance of your house.
